Seismic Risk Assessment and Mitigation Strategies for Building Resilience in Telangana

Telangana, a moderately active seismic state, is experiencing rapid urbanization and infrastructure growth, which has increased the vulnerability of structures to earthquake damage. The current study aims to assess seismic hazards and analyze mitigation strategies to enhance resilience and safety for the public. It discusses seismic hazard mapping, vulnerability analysis techniques, and current measures of mitigation, with emphasis on the requirement of region-specific building codes, retrofitting of existing buildings, and application of advanced technologies such as base isolators and energy dissipation systems. The study also considers the role of GIS-based risk analysis and artificial intelligence in earthquake impact predictions. Results show that transitioning to performance-based seismic design, enhancing construction technology, and following government-initiated measures can efficiently minimize seismic vulnerabilities. The report highlights the roles of community information, early warnings, and policy measures, which demand coordination and cooperation among policymakers, engineers, and urban planners to develop an earthquake-resistant, sustainable built environment for Telangana.
