Indigenous French
Abstract The aim of this article is to critically analyze the current legal status of amerindians in French Guiana, with a focus on territorial rights and the recognition collective identity. I demonstrate that despite the prominence of the Jacobin narrative, France has lately gradually opened its political and legal systems towards a cautious legal recognition of these populations, in spite of the several remnant paradoxes, that can be interpreted as a fissure in its legal tradition, marked by a legal geography of vulnerability . The article is methodologically inscribed in the field of human rights’ critical theory, in an interdisciplinary dialogue with sociological analysis of law.
