Socio-Economic Development of Tibet in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025). Part 12

The main directions of socio-economic development for the 14th five-year period (2021–2025), as well as the long-term goals of the PRC until 2035, were approved at the fifth plenum of the CPC Central Committee of the XIX convocation, which was held in Beijing from October 26 to 29, 2020. The plan was developed against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic and the deterioration of Sino-American relations. For the first time in the country's five-year plan, specific figures for economic growth and other statistical benchmarks were not announced. Nevertheless, China turned out to be the only major country in the world in which the economy did not shrink as a result of the pandemic, but quickly regained moderate growth rates. At the same time, the pace of development of the Tibetan economy was significantly higher than the national average and only in 2022 it equaled the minimum. The pandemic led to a drop in revenues from tourism and foreign trade, which was soon overcome. Transport in the region, as well as the sphere of social services, continued to develop at an accelerated pace. The standard of living in the Tibet Autonomous Region has significantly exceeded the corresponding indicators in the neighboring countries of South Asia: India, Pakistan and Nepal.
