To the Issue of Assessing the Impact of Infocommunication Technologies on Economic Development
The impact of infocommunication technologies (ICT) on economic development has been repeatedly assessed in the literature. Estimates are ambiguous, sometimes contradictory. The analysis was carried out by individual groups of countries at separate time periods. The purpose of the study is to analyze the available data of the World Bank for the entire observation period for all countries, find out the closeness of the relationship between ICT and GDP over the past decades, evaluate the parameters of the model that describes the size of GDP from the degree of penetration of basic ICT services. The methodological base is theoretical analysis of the relationship between ICT and economic development, the information base is the statistical database of the World Bank. The objects of study are the countries of the world, information about which is collected by the World Bank for the period 1961–2021. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the analysis of the dynamics of changes in the indicator of pair correlation between indicators of the level of penetration of ICT services and GDP, the development of an integral indicator of the level of penetration of basic ICT services, the adaptation of the Jipp diagram of the dependence of telephone density on average per capita GDP to modern conditions and the development of a model for the dependence of average per capita GDP on the level of penetration broadband Internet access services and telephone density. The results obtained will make it possible to predict the development of the economy, taking into account the introduction of new ICT services.
