S100B protein: a target for an antiasthenic drug with antioxidant activity

The paper highlights modern concepts of asthenic syndrome in patients with chronic non-communicable diseases (e.g., cardiovascular diseases, bronchopulmonary diseases, diabetes mellitus, malignant neoplasms, etc.). Data on the brain-specific protein S100B role in pathogenesis of asthenic syndrome of various origin are reported. Results of preclinical studies of technologically processed S100B antibodies-based drugs are reviewed. The information indicates that their antioxidant effect (prevention or limitation of hypoxic hyperactivation of lipid peroxidation processes) is comparable or higher than that of a reference drug (ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate). Randomized controlled trials of efficiency and safety of technologically processed S100B antibodies-based drugs demonstrated strong antiasthenic and antioxidant effects (i. e., recovered activity of a predominantly endogenous antioxidant system in patients with cerebral atherosclerosis). Thus, Prospekta administration leads to a significant regression of asthenic symptoms and management of oxidative stress in patients with chronic non- communicable diseases. Abstract
