Ichthyofaunal Diversity of River Kosi at Ramnagar (Nainital) India

The present study deals with ichthyofaunal biodiversity during 1 year period (January 2022 to December 2022) in the Kosi River at Ramnagar Nainital. Fishes are key species of aquatic ecosystem and very important for functioning of ecosystem. Rivers protect a rich variety of fish species which supports the commercial fisheries. During the course of study, total 27 fish species were identified belonging to six families through Anguillidae, Balitoridae channidae, Cobitidae, Cyprinidae, and Nemacheilidae. In this study, the Cyprinidae was dominant to the other family, in which families Cyprinidae contributes 63%, Cobitidae contributes 7%, Channidae contributes 15%, Nemacheilidae contributes 7%, Anguillidae contributes 4%, and Balitoridae contributes 4%. Tor tor fish species commonly called 'Mahasheer' and it has most dominant in River Kosi Uttarakhand. . KEYWORDS :Fish species, Kosi River, Water quality, etc.
