Investigation of Teachers’ Job Satisfaction and Motivation in Terms of Different Variables

The aim of this research was to analyze teachers’ job satisfaction and motivation in terms of different variables. The study employed a survey model. The sample group of the research consisted of 381 teachers, expert teachers, and head teachers selected through the simple random sampling method, one of the random sampling methods, from public schools in the Beşiktaş, Kağıthane, and Ümraniye districts of Istanbul during the academic year of 2023-2024. Data were collected through “Job Satisfaction Scale” developed by Şahin (1999), “Teacher Motivation Scale” developed by Karabağ-Köse et al. (2021). Collected data were analysed through unpaired t-Test, One-Way ANOVA and non-parametric Kruskal Wallis-H analysis. The results revealed that the general job satisfaction level of the teachers, the expert teachers and the head teachers were medium. It was found out that there was no statistically significant difference in the overall job satisfaction scores regarding gender, educational background, years of seniority, district of employment and title variables. However, statistically significant differences were observed in overall job satisfaction scores regardin age variable. The results also revealed that the general motivation level of the teachers, the expert teachers and the head teachers were medium. It was also found out that there was no statistically significant difference in the overall motivation scores according to the gender, educational background, age, years of seniority, district of employment and title variables in the demographic information of the three teacher groups. Based on these findings, it is recommended that policymakers and practitioners improve the physical and psychosocial conditions in the work environment to enhance teachers’ job satisfaction and motivation.
