Solar PV application on office buildings: a state of the art analysis through bibliometric approach

Abstract Solar PV applications have been known to provide several benefits when it was chosen to be adopted in office buildings. This study intends to review current publications and future trends in solar PV applications in office buildings. A total of 648 journals were published between 2018 and 2022 considering solar PV applications on office buildings that were accumulated from the Web of Science (WoS) database. A bibliometric review study through network mapping analysis was developed using VOS Viewer software application. The findings are shown on the solar PV on office building literature in terms of the most dominant journal titles, co-cite authors, keywords, and countries. Besides, the correlation issues between performance and energy demand by solar PV applications in office buildings, as well as the energy and financial viability by corporations were also discussed in this study. Past themes discovered are (1) Performance of solar PV application, (2) The demand for solar PV application, (3) cost-effective solar PV application, (4) modeling and simulation of solar PV application, and (5) developing countries and solar PV application. Future themes included (1) Improvement framework of solar PV in office buildings, (2) thermal performance and solar PV in an office building, (3) energy efficiency and solar PV in an office building, (4) Energy and heat storage by solar PV in an office building, and (5) solar PV in different countries The implications of the study found that theoretically, scholars could focus on improvement and gaps, whereby, practically, governments and corporations could be affected. The limitations of this study such as lack of exhaustive and the absence of past framework analysis suggested that improvements from this study are encouraged. Researchers and practitioners in the fields of solar PV application on office building research could benefited greatly from the comprehensive and groundbreaking reference offered by the bibliometric study of the body of existing work.
