Import substitution of mining and geological information systems at Gipronickel Institute LLC

In recent years, some foreign companies leave the Russian market, including suppliers of special software support for the industries and the research and design institutions engaged in mineral mining and processing. Thus, it is necessary to substitute import of foreign mining and geological information systems (MGIS) with their domestic analogs. The key approaches to the analysis of foreign MGIS substitution at the Gipronickel Institute are discussed. Potential ways to substitute foreign special software support are described. The comparative analysis of functional capabilities of the foreign and domestic mining and geological information systems is carried out. The main sources for the comparative analysis was the product tryouts, published materials on the topic, first-hand experience of MGIS engineers, as well as expert opinions of members of subsoil use companies and research and design agencies directly connected with the application of MGIS. The main research methods were the analysis and comparison. The benefits and failures of substitution of foreign bundled software are described. The benefits include the non-accidentalness in licensing, tech support, etc.; much lower cost of the Russian MGIS as compared with their foreign analogs; higher competitive ability of the domestic MGIS due to the leave of the foreign MGIS, which can promote development of the products; flexible and versatile adaptation of MGIS functions to the specifics of the design and mining companies in Russia; higher safety of data transfer and storage; increased interest of government in cooperation and progression of the domestic MGIS.
