In the second half of the 19th century Expo’s function as a platform for demonstrating the achievements of national industry. A number of exhibitions most characteristically showed the evolution of the rules for organizing the event and the style of the gold and silver products presented. The Russian jewelry industry initially consists of both artistic and industrial designs of silverware. The first direction is stylistically correlated with the European trend of "historicism" but is based on national images. Their development would later transform into the "Russian style", which had no analogues among foreign factories. Popular with buyers from different countries, by the turn of the century it gave way to classic designs from French jewelers and innovative American items.
