As the sum of material and spiritual resources condensed by the Communist Party of China (CPC) in leading the people in socialist construction, the red cultural resources are highly compatible with ideological and political education in colleges and universities in terms of value guidance and practical cultivation. The report of the 20th CPC National Congress clearly puts forward the requirement of “making good use of red resources” to cultivate new men of the times who are capable of taking up the important responsibility of national rejuvenation in the new era. Through the ideological and political theory courses and practical education activities in colleges and universities, red cultural resources have had a positive impact on the value leadership of college students, the inheritance of red culture, and practical education. Based on the internal dialectics of red cultural resources and ideological and political education, this paper probes the systematic path of red cultural resources empowering ideological and political education in colleges and universities from the four dimensions of optimization of the curriculum system, innovation of the practice mode, construction of the resource platform and improvement of the evaluation mechanism. Through the deep dive and creative conversion of red cultural resources, the effectiveness of ideological and political education in colleges and universities in the new era can be boosted.
