The Treatment of a Surgical Thigh Lift Dehiscence With Extracellular Matrix Technology Derived From Ovine Forestomach: A Case Report

Thigh lift surgeries enhance thigh aesthetics, especially after significant weight loss, but often lead to complications like wound dehiscence. Extracellular matrix (ECM) products, mimicking the body’s natural matrix, show promise in promoting tissue regeneration. This report details the use of ovine forestomach matrix (OFM), an ECM product, in a 56-year-old female with a medial thigh wound breakdown post-thigh lift. Conventional treatments, including negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and wet-to-dry dressings, showed limited success. Applying OFM particulate resulted in rapid wound improvement and complete healing in 72 days, with favorable scar formation. Ovine forestomach matrix’s success in managing the complex wound underscores its efficacy in promoting wound healing. The structured protocol for OFM application not only accelerated healing but also minimized scarring, highlighting its potential in cosmetic surgery. This case demonstrates OFM’s promising role in managing postsurgical wound complications, offering an effective alternative to traditional treatments. Further research is needed to optimize ECM utilization protocols and fully harness their benefits in surgical wound management.
