ON THE NEED FOR CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF THE DANUBE–TISA–DANUBE (DTD) CANAL SYSTEM
This paper addresses the need for continuous monitoring of the Danube–Tisa–Danube (DTD) canal system, which is exposed to diverse anthropogenic pressures. Based on recent physical-chemical, biological, and ecotoxicological data, it highlights the spatial variability of pollution and the limitations of current monitoring cycles. The study proposes the introduction of seasonal, multi-parameter monitoring and the integration of sediment and biota assessments for improved ecological status evaluation.
