Ortho-surgical Management of a Patient with Short Face Syndrome
Treating a patient with short face syndrome (SFS) poses a significant challenge for orthodontists, as it requires meticulous treatment planning. SFS is characterized by a distinct facial morphology, primarily manifested by reduced lower anterior facial height. Accurate diagnosis and treatment planning requires comprehensive clinical and cephalometric evaluations. The approach to treatment largely depends on clinical assessment. Although orthodontic treatment can correct the associated malocclusion, it is not effective in modifying facial proportions. To restore balanced facial proportions and achieve the desired esthetic outcome, adults with SFS often require a combination of orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery. This article presents a case report of a female patient with SFS, where an orthognathic surgical approach was successfully used to correct the malocclusion.
