Down Syndrome – A Case of Oral Reflection
Down syndrome is also called Down’s syndrome, trisomy 21 syndrome, mongolism, and congenital acromicria syndrome. It is one of the most common chromosomal conditions, caused by chromosome 21. Patients have several systemic manifestations and also have intellectual disability, growth retardation and slow motor development, and a characteristic set of craniofacial features. This report describes a case of a 16-year-old female patient with typical orofacial findings in Down syndrome with a review of the literature. An early diagnosis of this disorder plays a pivotal role in improving the psychological, physiological, as well medical and dental quality of life in affected patients.
