Resgate histórico sobre a origem das calçadas com desenho geográfico do estado de São Paulo projetadas por Mirthes Bernardes

This article presents a historical overview of the sidewalks with geographic patterns from the State of São Paulo applied in the city of São Paulo. Also popularly known as the “São Paulo map” or “Paulista pavement”. The authorship of the project is attributed to Mirthes Bernardes (artistic name of Mirtes dos Santos Pinto), who holds its industrial design patent. Her reports of the history about the pavement were compared with articles from the 1960s and 1970s regarding the paving standardization initiative carried out by the City Hall during Faria Lima's administration. This investigation was able to clarify inaccuracies publicized about its origin, as well as reveal facts unknown even to the pattern's author. At the same time, the relevance of this type of Portuguese stone paving for constructing the urban identity of the capital is highlighted.
