“There are so Many Golden Lights on the Streets of Saratov...”: Review of the XXII International Scientific Conference “Onomastics of the Volga Region”.
The article describes the range of onomastic studies outlined at the XXII International Scientific Conference “Onomastics of the Volga Region”, which took place on September 26‒29, 2024 at Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky. The first plenary session was opened with a memorial report by O.V. Nikitin “Academician A.A. Shakhmatov as an onomatologist”: the outstanding linguist and ethnographer spent his childhood years in the village of Gubarevka, Saratov province. Also at the first plenary session, a report was made by I.V. Solovyova about Saratov onomatologist Lyudmila Grigorievna Khizhnyak, who passed away last year. In general, at the plenary and sectional sessions, reports were heard and discussed on the theoretical and methodological aspects of onomastics, modern problems of anthroponymy, toponymy, urbanonymy and ergonymy, and the peculiarities of the functioning of proper names in a literary text. During the conference, priority areas of onomastics of the 21st century were updated, controversial issues and research prospects were identified.
