The Book by I. I. Garanovich “Methods of Historical Synthesis”: an Unknown Perspective on the Problem
The article provides a summary of the key aspects of the book “Methods of Historical Synthesis” by the historian of Russian Diaspora, I. I. Gapanovich. The attention is focused on the analysis of theoretical and methodological premises of the historian’s point of view on the problem of synthesis, the outlines of his own concept are noted, but deliberately omitted reflections on the application of methods in practice. Relying on the heuristic potential of the idea of intertextuality and transnational historiography, an attempt is made to outline the main points of intersection between I. I. Gapanovich’s ideas about the nature of historical knowledge and other intellectuals of his time. Finally, the author interprets the meaning of historical synthesis for I. I. Gapanovich.
