An Efficient and Selective 7-(Diethylamino)quinolin-2(1<i>H</i>)-One-Chalcone Fluorescent Probe for Detecting Bisulfite in Wine Samples Using a Micellar Solution

A new probe (<i>E</i>)-7-(diethylamino)-3-(3-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl)-1-methylquinolin-2-(1<i>H</i>)-one (<b>DQCh</b>) was synthesized and structurally characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and HRMS. <b>DQCh</b> was photophysically characterized by employing UV-vis, fluorescence, and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy in combination with computational methods. This probe was studied as a turn-off fluorescent probe based on a Michael addition mechanism for sensing bisulfite (HSO3 -), which is favored in the presence of an aqueous micellar solution of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. The probe exhibited an effective and high selectivity toward bisulfite over other interfering anions with a detection limit of 0.7 μmol L-1. Moreover, probe <b>DQCh</b> showed great potential for its practical application in the detection of bisulfite in real samples of white wine.
