Influence of Operating Conditions on the Electrical and Magnetic Parameters of Rails
This paper presents the research demonstrating how the longitudinal resistance modules of rail threads change during operation for different values of specific resistance of rails and specific magnetic permeability. In this instance, the impact of hysteresis losses and surface (skin) effects on the active resistance of rails was carefully considered. Module change graphs were constructed for the calculated rail thread resistance at signal current frequencies of 25, 50 and 150 Hz. The rail thread specific operating conditions provide further information on the causes of failures in the operation of rail circuits and automatic locomotive alarm systems. This extends the range of calculations relating to rail circuit operation modes, with the aim of enhancing the efficient detection of failure causes.
