The study of the thematic unit of magnitudes and measurements mediated by the narrative “The Adventures of Pinocchio”

This article presents some activities from a didactic sequence, designed based on the narrative The Adventures of Pinocchio, for teaching the thematic unit on magnitudes and measurements in a second year of Elementary School. The main proposal presented here is that children’s literature is a powerful cultural object that can be interconnected with mathematics, aiming at teaching this science, because at the same time as it raises discussions of an emotional and psychological nature, it opens up space for mathematical subjects to be discussed and the language specific to this discipline, which holds parallels with the mother tongue, which is the one that tells the story.
