Exam Preparation Assistance Chatbot Using Retrieval Augmented Generation

Exam preparation requires the usage of study material to learn information. This is followed up by testing the knowledge by attending mock tests. Mock tests are usually prepared by teachers while taking into consideration the syllabus for the test and also the pattern of questions asked in the previous examinations. This helps in preparing a comprehensive set of questions that help the student evaluate their knowledge and help them evaluate their performance. The process of creating mock tests is time intensive and requires considerable effort from teachers to create them. This paper aims to work on aiding teachers in this process by utilizing the power of Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models. Generative Artificial Intelligence has gained immense popularity due to its ability to generate natural language responses to query relating to a large knowledge base. The model proposed in this paper utilizes a smaller and limited knowledge base to train the model to maximize processing efficiency for normal computers. The model also is powered by Retrieval Augmented Generation process to enable it to tap into external knowledge resources such as study materials provided by the student and generate appropriate responses to the queries from the user. This helps provide students with personalized mock test preparation software and reduces the time spent by teachers to create mock tests and help them focus on aiding students with their learning process. This optimizes the learning experience for both the teacher and the student.
