Solar Energy and Visible Light Communication for Eco-Friendly Communication Systems-An Overview
Renewable energy solutions leverage natural, constantly replenished sources for power generation with solar energy being one of the most prominent techniques. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity powering a wide array of devices and systems. Meanwhile, Visible Light Communication (VLC) is an innovative wireless technology that uses visible light typically from Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to transmit data. Unlike conventional Radio Frequency (RF) communication, VLC utilizes light waves offering benefits such as high data transmission speeds, enhanced security and access to an expansive unregulated spectrum. When solar-powered LEDs are integrated into VLC systems they serve dual functions, providing both illumination and a medium for data transmission. This synergy significantly reduces the overall energy consumption of VLC systems as the communication power is derived from renewable solar energy. By incorporating solar LEDs the reliance on conventional power sources is minimized, lowering both energy consumption and operational costs. Moreover, VLC's ability to achieve high data rates is enhanced in an environmentally friendly way.
