Patient-Centered Care in the Metaverse: Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality for Enhanced Surgical Experiences

Patient-centered care will undoubtedly undergo a transformation with the introduction of the Metaverse and Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technology, especially in the area of surgical experiences. This study investigates the use of AR and VR in the Metaverse to build interactive, personalized, and immersive surgical settings that are tailored to each patient's specific requirements. These technologies can boost patient participation, lower anxiety, and improve overall surgical results by replicating pre-operative procedures, offering real-time guidance during surgery, and easing post-operative care. Additionally, the study looks at how AR and VR might improve patient-provider communication, leading to more educated choices and customized treatment regimens. The advantages for patient-centered care are significant, even while the integration of these technologies into patient care comes with certain challenges, such as cost, accessibility, and the requirement for strong data security measures. According to this research, surgery's future is in the Metaverse, where AR and VR will significantly alter the patient experience and eventually result in more efficient and compassionate medical care.

Abstract

Patient-centered care will undoubtedly undergo a transformation with the introduction of the Metaverse and Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technology, especially in the area of surgical experiences. This study investigates the use of AR and VR in the Metaverse to build interactive, personalized, and immersive surgical settings that are tailored to each patient's specific requirements. These technologies can boost patient participation, lower anxiety, and improve overall surgical results by replicating pre-operative procedures, offering real-time guidance during surgery, and easing post-operative care.
