Design and Development of Virtual Reality Headset-controlled Pick and Place Robot Arm

This paper presents the design and development of a virtual reality (VR) system that enables users to control a pick-and-place robot arm through natural, intuitive movements. Leveraging VR technology, users wear a headset and motion-tracking gloves, allowing them to interact with the robot in real-time as if they were directly manipulating objects in the physical world. This project is inspired by the technology depicted in the movie Ra. One, where a character controls a virtual entity through similar means. The primary objective of this system is to improve the precision, ease, and intuitiveness of robotic control, which is critical in various fields such as manufacturing, assembly, and remote operations. The integration of VR with robotics allows for an immersive experience, where users can see the robot's actions in a virtual environment, offering feedback and enhancing control accuracy. Initial experiments demonstrate that this VR -based control system provides significant advantages over traditional control methods, including better user engagement and higher precision in performing tasks. This work contributes to the ongoing development of advanced human-robot interaction technologies and opens up new possibilities for remote operation and training applications.
