Addressing Erratic PMS Behavior in Jack-Up Drilling Rigs: A Simulation Approach
This paper examines the performance of a Power Management System (PMS) on an offshore jack-up drilling rig, focusing on its erratic behavior and the irregular starting of the rig's diesel generators (DGs) during specific oil drilling operations. By replicating these problematic conditions and conducting offline simulations, we identify an optimal set of PMS parameters that significantly mitigate the irregularities. Additionally, we forecast the potential savings in fuel consumption and reduced generator running hours achieved under these optimized conditions.
