Overvoltage Simulation Analysis in the Sending-end Grid of Large-scale Photovoltaic Cluster Transmission by VSC-HVDC
The transient overvoltage resulting from short circuit faults in the sending-end grid of large-scale photovoltaic cluster transmission by voltage source converter based high voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) differs from the transient overvoltage characteristics of traditional AC power grids. This is a new power quality problem faced by new power system. Therefore, this paper first establishes an electromagnetic transient model of the system in PSCAD/EMTDC. Based on this simulation model, simulations are performed across various scenarios with different fault types and locations. By analyzing the simulation results, the overvoltage characteristics of the sending-end grid in different scenarios are summarized. This analysis provides insights into how over voltages vary under different conditions. The results presented in this paper provide a foundation for the subsequent research into overvoltage mechanisms within the sending-end grid, and offer a theoretical basis for the emergency plans and risk management.
