7-Level Reduced Switch Symmetrical Inverter
Advanced power electronic converters known as multilevel inverters (MLI) combine many levels of DC voltage sources for the stepped output waveform generation. These can be used effectively in a number of medium to high voltage applications such as power grid, motor drives, renewable energy systems etc., and their potential in increasing both power quality and efficiency. Multi-level inverters are more favoured than a conventional two-level inverter in terms of lesser harmonic distortion, lower electromagnetic interference and higher DC link voltages. Even though multilevel inverters possess several attractive properties, the application scope of this variety is restricted due to a traditional configuration's requirement for additional switches. Due to the mentioned points, a new seven-level multilevel inverter design is presented that includes the fewest unidirectional switches and gate trigger circuitry with minimal switching losses and less size and cost. The suggested design will be good for applications of renewable energy sources and vehicles. MATLAB/SIMULINK is used for the validation of the findings.
