Promoting Feline and Canine Hydration: Design and Evaluation of a Gravity-Fed Water Dispenser with Automatic Lid

This document presents a new automatic pet water dispenser design with a microcontroller-controlled sliding door. An Arduino board and Servo motor manages a chosen mechanism (e.g., linear actuator) to open the lid upon detecting a pet's presence via a PIR sensor. This touch-free access promotes hygiene and pet comfort. For user convenience, a separate refill mechanism ensures a consistent water supply, independent of the Arduino and the Servo motor system. This could be a gravity-fed reservoir or a connection to a main water line. This simplifies the design, reduces maintenance, and eliminates the need for water level sensors within the dispenser itself. An optional LED provides visual feedback on dispenser status or low water level. This design offers a unique blend of pet-centric features, user convenience, and efficient water dispensing, making it a valuable tool for modern pet care.
