Nonlinear Adaptive Control Design-Based Ground Fault Current and Voltage Fusion Suppression Method for Arc Suppression in Active Distribution Networks

Single phase-to-ground (SPG) faults in distribution active networks can cause serious hazards, such as fire accident, electrical shocks, and power outages. Typically, a power converter is connected to neutral point of distribution networks to suppress fault current and voltage until the fault arc disappears. However, conventional current-based or voltage-based suppression methods alone using proportional-integral control (PIC) cannot adapt to uncertain and various fault resistances, causing a long transient response time and residual fault current and voltage. This paper proposes a nonlinear adaptive control (NAC) design-based SPG fault current and voltage fusion suppression method. The designed NAC integrates the fault current and voltage suppression theories, and considers variable and unknown fault resistances. Besides, it satisfies Lyapunov's asymptotic stability. Therefore, the proposed method can better suppress fault current and voltage, and adapt to various fault resistances. Simulation study has been conducted, and the results demonstrate that the fault current and voltage can be simultaneously suppressed with a shorter transient response time, and the residual fault current and voltage is smaller than that of the PIC, under different fault resistances.
