Hand Gesture Recognition for Smart Control of Electrical Appliances Using Computer Vision
The human-driven field of computer interface hand gesture recognition has been the subject of vigorous activity in computer vision and machine learning. In response to the increasing need for intuitive and sometimes touch-free interfaces, hand gesture controls gained popularity for the purpose of controlling electrical devices in smart homes and automation systems. The main aim of the current research is to utilize hand gesture recognition algorithms developed using computer vision for compatible control of several electronic devices. This system does so through image processing and the application of machine learning, gesture commands from the users are interpreted and carried out by switching on/off devices or changing their state. It is evident that the proposed approach is beneficial especially for people with mobility problems as normal physical interaction with computer devices is not required. The talk describes the basic principles of the system including gesture detection, gesture recognition, and incorporation of electrical appliances. Data collected from system implementations in practice indicate high levels of operational efficiency and effectiveness of the solution thus favorably controlling smart appliances.
