Comparative study on control methods of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for EV application
Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous motors are broadly applied in electric vehicle (EV) application especially for passenger and commercial vehicles. It has its own advantages like high efficiency, wide range of operation, high torque density and so on. Torque accuracy and redundant control strategies are important factors in motor control system. Field oriented control is widely used method used to control machine drive. PMSM can be controlled in two regions named as constant torque and constant power regions. This paper investigates control mechanisms in these two regions. The investigation is based on parameters required for EV application such as torque accuracy, stability, loss minimization and dynamic performances. Further recently developed methods are reviewed, and suitability is highlighted in the view of EV application.
