Voice Enabled Reading Assistance for Visually Impaired
This paper introduces a comprehensive voice-enabled assistance system aimed at enhancing the quality of life and independence of visually impaired individuals. The proposed system integrates multiple technologies, including Optical Character Recognition (OCR), object detection, and distance measurement, to address challenges in reading, identifying objects, and safe navigation. The system is implemented on a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B platform, leveraging Tesseract OCR for text recognition, YOLOv5 for real-time object detection, and ultrasonic sensors for precise distance measurement. These components work seamlessly together to provide real-time audio feedback, which acts as an intuitive and accessible interface for the users. By combining these advanced technologies, the system ensures enhanced usability, safety, and independence for individuals with visual impairments, enabling them to navigate and interact with their environment more effectively. This work emphasizes the importance of assistive technologies in creating inclusive solutions for people with disabilities.
