Isoflex Converter: Advanced Isolated Multi-Output DC-DC Converter Topology for Reliable EV Power Management in Auxiliary Applications
The widespread adoption of electric vehicles has brought about numerous challenges and prompted innovative solutions in their technology. One such challenge involves converting the battery voltage to different required voltage levels using DC-DC converters. While it is possible to employ a distinct converter for each voltage level, the utilization of single-input multi-output (SIMO) converters can decrease expenses and switching losses, thereby enhancing overall system efficiency. This SIMO DC-DC converter proposal aims to effectively manage varied power demands within an electric vehicle, accommodating multiple voltage levels and diverse loads. It is designed to convert a single input voltage into multiple output voltages, adapting to various electrical subsystems in an electric vehicle such as battery management, motor drives, and auxiliary systems. This paper aims at the SIMO converter design for an auxiliary system which uses various voltage levels like 6V, 12V, 24V and 48V for lighting, power windows, audio systems and power steering etc. The proposed system provides isolation of load from source i.e., the isolation will consistently create a barrier between the input phase and the output phase and may be necessary for the circuit functionality, safety or potentially both. This architecture design uses a high frequency transformer for providing galvanic isolation. The simulation and experimental results are analysed to prove the effectiveness of this Isoflex Converter for EV applications.
