Design and Analysis of Double-Sided Excited Permanent Magnet Arc Motor Having Parallel Complementary Effect
This article proposes a new double-sided excited permanent magnet arc motor with a parallel complementary effect (PCE-PMAM) used in electromagnetic launch systems. The PCE-PMAM is featured by parallel complementary design (PCD) and bidirectional flux modulation effect (BFME). Based on PCD and BFME, the proposed PCE-PMAM has the advantages of high average torque and low torque ripple. Specifically, the topology structure and working principle of the proposed PCE-PMAM are introduced, and then the stator slot-rotor pole combination of the PCE-PMAM is optimized to obtain optimal motor performance. Subsequently, the working mechanism of torque ripple mitigation is analytically analyzed based on the PCD. Finally, the electromagnetic performance of the proposed PCE-PMAM is compared with other three kinds of PM arc motors (PMAMs) based on the finite-element (FE) method, and the comparative results verify the superiority of the proposed PCE-PMAM.
