EFFECTIVENESS OF CORROSION INHIBITORS IN HIGH-SULFUR FORMATION WATER CONDITIONS IN THE REPUBLIC OF BASHKORTOSTAN
The corrosion of metal equipment is one of the most serious challenges faced by the oil and gas industry, especially under operating conditions in aggressive environments containing hydrogen sulfide. The high-sulfur formation water of the oil fields in the Republic of Bashkortostan exerts significant corrosive effects on metal structures, leading to accelerated equipment degradation, reduced service life, increased maintenance costs, and a higher probability of accidents. An important and effective method of combating corrosion is the use of inhibitors forming protective films on metal surfaces. However, the effectiveness of inhibitors depends on the chemical composition of the environment, the concentration of active substances, and operating conditions, necessitating thorough laboratory analysis before industrial application. This study investigates the effectiveness of five types of corrosion inhibitors: IFKHAN-91, VIKOR, KORBS (KIN), BTA, and TANIN under high-sulfur formation water conditions. The gravimetric method was used to assess their protective properties, allowing for the determination of the corrosion rate of metal samples at various inhibitor concentrations. The experiment simulated real operating conditions, including contact of the equipment with a water-oil emulsion saturated with hydrogen sulfide at a concentration of 2 g/l. The results of the study showed that the IFKHAN-91 inhibitor demonstrated the highest level of protection – 92.44 %—classifying it as a highly effective corrosion prevention agent in aggressive environments. In contrast, the inhibitors VIKOR, KORBS (KIN), BTA, and TANIN exhibited significantly lower efficiency, indicating their limited applicability in high-sulfur formation water conditions. The obtained results highlight the importance of selecting appropriate inhibitors based on the chemical composition of formation water and the specific operating conditions of the equipment. The use of highly effective inhibitors such as IFKHAN-91 can significantly slow down corrosion processes, extend equipment service life, and reduce maintenance and repair costs. Future research should focus on conducting bench-scale and industrial trials of inhibitors, as well as developing combined formulations with enhanced efficiency for use in harsh operational environments. The application of modern corrosion resistance analysis methods and the development of new inhibitors tailored to the specific conditions of the oil and gas industry will help minimize corrosion damage and ensure the reliable operation of equipment. A promising direction is the study of inhibitor action mechanisms and their potential combinations to improve protection efficiency.
