Abandoned Military Areas - Current Condition and Potential for Development

The condition and exploitation of military territories is directly determined by the national security policies and strategies of each state. Over the years, these have undergone numerous transformations, reflecting the changing needs of the times and society. With the end of compulsory military service in most European countries, the situation and status of the military units serving soldiers is undergoing a significant change. The number of barracks that are currently operational is rapidly declining, with many remaining establishments becoming inaccessible due to the deterioration of their structures. The combination of rapid urbanisation, the need to absorb new land and the drive for sustainable development has led to the necessity for a modern rethink and revitalisation of these areas to maximise their capacity.
