Parametric Layout Design System for Human-Robot Collaboration Assembly Cell Based on OpenCASCADE

In the context of Industry 4.0, with the increasing demand for small-batch customized products, the requirements for the flexibility of assembly cells have become more demanding. To address this challenge, enterprises are investing heavily in HRC (human-robot collaboration) assembly cells to improve both assembly efficiency and quality while meeting high flexibility requirements. However, the layout design of these cells is primarily based on engineers’ experience. Engineers typically focus on traditional automation design objectives such as cost reduction and improved production cycle time, while neglecting human factors such as worker comfort and collaboration efficiency during the human-robot assembly process. In response, this study first defines the key design and layout parameters for HRC assembly cells and utilizes a GA (genetic algorithm) to solve these layout parameters. A parametric layout design system for HRC assembly cells is developed using OCC (OpenCASCADE), which automatically generates a 3D layout of the assembly cell based on the solved parameters. Finally, the validity of the proposed layout scheme is verified through a bolted assembly case study for a new energy battery pack.
