Style in art as an axis of integration: methodological emphases of art teaching in the 8th grade of general secondary education institutions
The article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of implementing the integrated course “Art” in the 8th grade of basic secondary education within the framework of the New Ukrainian School reform. The focus is placed on the cultural, aesthetic, and personal development functions of the course, which combines various types of art into a unified educational content. The central integrative concept is defined as the "artistic style," serving as a structural basis for content design and teaching methodology. The article substantiates the necessity of shifting from reproductive to interactive and creative teaching methods tailored to the age-specific needs of adolescents. Effective pedagogical strategies are analyzed, including project-based learning, art discussions, interpretation of artworks, digital visualization, and the use of digital tools such as presentations, videos, collages, and virtual tours. These approaches are shown to enhance students’ understanding of the historical and cultural context, foster critical and emotional thinking, and develop communication and creative skills. The course's role in developing key competencies is highlighted: cultural, digital (information and communication), entrepreneurial, social, and the competence of learning to learn. The article concludes that the integrated “Art” course provides conditions for holistic perception of art, supports the formation of students’ personal experiences, and motivates them toward self-expression and dialogue with culture. The prospects for further research are outlined.
