Development and Research of a Promising Material for High-Power Fluorocarbon Cathodes

An original method for the synthesis of silver vanadium oxide (Ag2V4O11) has been developed, which includes the mechanochemical activation of a mixture of vanadium pentoxide and silver nitrate in a planetary mill, followed by thermal treatment in a muffle furnace at a temperature of 700°C for 5 h in an air environment, resulting in a product yield of 99.5% in a highly dispersed state. It has been established that the introduction of 8 wt % Ag2V4O11 allows for a twofold improvement in polarization characteristics compared to the conventional (CFx)n sample. It has been shown that, at a discharge current density above 1.0 mA/cm2, there is a significant decrease in specific discharge capacity and average discharge potential for both the traditional (CFx)n sample and samples with a low content of silver vanadium oxide. Increasing the content of Ag2V4O11 above 8 wt % leads to a reduction in the specific capacity of the samples due to the lower energy density of this material compared to that of (CFx)n. The highest energy density at a higher discharge potential is exhibited by the sample with an 8 wt % content of silver vanadium oxide (630 mAh/g), while the traditional sample has a capacity of 570 mAh/g. Electrodes based on the composition fluorocarbon–silver vanadium oxide and primary cells based on them surpass known analogs in terms of capacity, stability, and retention.
