Study on the spacing between urban arterial intersections and adjacent upstream access points

In order to study the reasonable spacing between the intersection and the upstream access points, the operation characteristics of the intersection and the upstream Access Points are fully considered, including lane change, acceleration and deceleration. By using the method of traffic flow theory, probability theory and kinematics, a reasonable calculation model of the distance between the intersection and the upstream Access Points with three factors of saturation, design speed and number of lanes is established, and the recommended value of the distance under different saturation is given. Finally, vissim simulation software is used to verify the recommended value obtained by the model, and it is concluded that the recommended value calculated by the model is reasonable and feasible. The spacing value calculated by the model can provide enough distance for vehicles to complete various operations between intersections and access points, which in turn enables vehicles to maintain a high average speed between intersections and access points, improves the smoothness of the lanes and reduces traffic conflicts. It provides a scientific basis for urban traffic planning, helps to optimize the access points, and improves the operational efficiency and safety of the urban road network.
