Research and application of an optimal route selection support system for highways in Zhejiang province

To address the challenges present in the current highway route selection process—specifically the absence of a comprehensive indicator system, limited applicability, and the protracted duration of route selection and alignment—this paper presents research on an optimized route selection system applicable during the highway design phase. Utilizing spatial and temporal foundational data from Zhejiang Province’s road network, along with the “Three Zones and Three Lines” data, we established a robust evaluation framework for highway design indicators. By employing Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial analysis and visualization techniques, we developed a highway optimization support system to evaluate land use compliance and rationality throughout the design phase. This system enables a digital approach to route selection, thereby enhancing highway planning within the transportation sector. The optimization framework leverages multidimensional data for interconnected analysis, significantly improving the efficiency of highway project selection and bolstering regulatory effectiveness for industry authorities. This advancement is pivotal for promoting the modernization of governance systems and enhancing governance capabilities in Zhejiang Province.
