Comprehensive Analysis of Voltage Vector Combinations in Three-level Converter for FS-MPDTC-Controlled Linear Induction Machines

This study evaluates the effectiveness of different combinations of 27 voltage vectors (VVs) for the three-level three-phase voltage source inverter (3L-3ph-VSI) on the linear induction machines (LIMs) in terms of electromagnetic thrust, primary flux linkage, primary phase current, line voltage, and the upper and lower capacitor voltages. The 3L-3ph-VSI has 27 VVs divided into 6 large, 6 medium, 12 small, and 3 zero VVs. The finite set model predictive direct thrust control (FCSMPDTC) for LIMs based on the 3L-3ph-VSI has not received comprehensive scholarly attention. Hence, this study presents a deep investigation of 3L-3ph-VSI for LIMs-based FCSMPDTC, where the cost function includes the thrust and the primary flux linkage error. The different combinations in this investigation are all 27 VVs, LVVs with all SVVs, LVVs with only six SVVs, LVVs with MVVs, and MVVs with only six SVVs. The proposed control methodology is validated through simulation, employing a 3-kW Arc machine. The results demonstrate the efficacy of all VVs compared to other combinations of VVs. Further investigation, a comparison of 27 VVs is performed with and without the capacitor voltage error and the switching transition in the cost function.
