Transforming Used Batteries for Sustainable Energy Services-Portable Power Supply

The growing demand for sustainable and reliable energy solutions has accelerated the development of portable power supplies that leverage second-life batteries. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for designing, implementing, and testing a Dual Active Bridge (DAB) bidirectional power converter, tailored for portable power supply applications. The system facilitates efficient energy exchange between a 48V repurposed battery pack and a 230V AC output, meeting the requirements of flexible and mobile energy systems. Key to this work is the integration of state-of-charge (SoC) and state-of-health (SoH) monitoring mechanisms, ensuring batteries operate within optimal conditions to maximise performance and longevity. An innovative charging system further enhances functionality by dynamically managing charge and discharge processes based on real-time SoH and SoC data, optimizing power flow while preventing overcharging or deep discharging. This approach extends battery lifespans and ensures the system’s reliability in diverse applications. This framework offers a robust and sustainable portable power supply solution for modern energy demands by combining repurposed batteries, advanced monitoring, and innovative power conversion technology.
