Analysis and Design of a Dual Active Bridge Converters with Stacked Secondary Phases for High Voltage Gain Applications
This paper presents a comprehensive theoretical analysis of a Dual Active Bridge Converter with Stacked Secondary Phases (DAB-SSP). The proposed topology employs a three-winding transformer with series-connected secondary windings to distribute the high output voltage across multiple devices, thereby reducing per-device voltage stress and conduction losses. A detailed analytical framework including parasitic resistances and capacitances, reveals that an optimal phase shift is critical for balancing conduction loss minimization and ensuring zero-voltage switching (ZVS). Simulation results validate the theoretical models, demonstrating significant improvements in efficiency and power density over conventional phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB), traditional Dual Active Bridge (DAB), and CLLC resonant converter architectures requiring isolation and high voltage gain. These findings establish a robust foundation for advanced control strategies and optimization in high-power applications such as electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and aerospace power supplies.
