Current Control in Multi-Coil PMSM

The article presents some of the technical challenges that are encountered in implementing the multi-coil machine control. The first one, which is also present in the regular three-phase machine control, is the d-axis priority which is needed during field weakening operation. This priority changes the q-axis set-point values, thus q-axis controllers need to account for that in the anti-windup implementation. In multicoil machines where systems are magnetically coupled, the first issue is how to keep the system dynamically fast enough while avoiding the oscillations caused by the coupling. The parallel controller operation also puts forward a question how these controllers should be saturated. Possible solutions are presented in this paper.
