A Semi-Angular Cylindrical Shape-Based Wideband Circularly Polarized Dielectric Resonator Antenna for C-V2X and Sub-6 GHz IoT Applications

This article highlights the realization of a circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) that consists of two orthogonally placed aperture-coupled semi-angular cylindrical DRs and has 45.1% of wide axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW). The antenna has an acceptable axial ratio value (≤ 3dB) and impedance bandwidth (S</i>11 ≤ -10 dB) from 3.18-5.02 GHz that covers n77, n78, n48, and n79 5G bands. Abstract

Additionally, it supports wireless standards that are essential for next-generation sub-6GHz Internet of Things (IoT) communications, such as WiMAX (3.3-3.8 GHz), Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) (3.55-3.7 GHz), and LTE (uplink 3.41-3.5 GHz/downlink 3.51-3.6 GHz). The antenna shows consistent broadside radiation with a cross-polarization discrimination (XPD) ≥ 15 dB throughout the band with a maximum gain value of 6.3 dBic at 3.4 GHz. It has a volume of 1.4λ0 × 1.4λ0 × 0.1λ0 (at lower frequency) and can be a good candidate for the emerging C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything) which mainly uses 5G NR (3.3-4.2 GHz (C-Band, mid-band 5G for wide-area coverage) along with LTE 4G and 4.9 GHz (Public Safety Band) for its communication.
