KDssZ: A web-based open-access tool for physics-based impedance measurements in cement-based composites

Key Data Source for Sampling Impedance measurements from cement-based composites (KDssZ) is an innovative software tool designed to optimize electrical impedance measurements in smart construction materials using a lumped circuit model. Its primary goal is to extract multiple electrical features from self-sensing cement-based composites, enabling the independent sensing of strain, temperature, humidity, and other relevant factors for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications, thus overcoming the limitations of existing methods, which often merge these effects. The proposed approach provides a deeper understanding of the interactions between various composite components, including electrodes, cement matrix, nanoparticles, and pores, by analyzing impedance across three frequency ranges: high, medium, and low. While the software has been validated with impedance measurements from gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, graphite, and reduced graphene oxide-enhanced cement-based composites, it is versatile enough to study the electrical properties of other smart construction materials, such as smart bricks and damage-sensitive lime mortar formulations. KDssZ is deployed on the Streamlit platform and adheres to open science principles, making it accessible to researchers working on similar studies. This fosters collaboration and enables the exploration of new applications related to cement-based composites and beyond. • KDssZ is a Web App designed to process electrical impedance data based on the Cole–Cole approach. • KDssZ decomposes impedance spectra, providing a deeper physical insight into cement-based composites. • KDssZ enhances data accessibility within the scientific community. • The long-term electrical properties of different cement-based composites are analyzed. • Pseudo-admittance has the potential to be strain-sensitive while constant under changing environment.
