Design of a Prototype IoT-Based Monitoring and Control System for Urban Aquaculture Support Equipment Utilizing Renewable Energy
In line with the concept of urban farming, urban aquaculture is the utilization of small, unused spaces in densely populated urban areas, transforming them into productive areas through the application of aquaculture technology. Generally, urban aquaculture can be defined as fish farming in limited spaces. Urban aquaculture can be implemented through home aquaculture or community aquaculture, using various methods adapted to the type of fish being farmed for consumption. Fish such as gourami, catfish, and tilapia are commonly farmed in rural areas, while catfish, which are easier to care for, are more often farmed in urban areas. The technology used in fish farming requires a stable and continuous electricity supply to ensure the fish can grow well. Electricity consumption for fish farming also needs to be a key consideration in the feasibility analysis of urban aquaculture. One advantage of Indonesia’s location on the equator is the abundant sunlight available year-round. Therefore, the use of solar cells or solar energy to generate electricity is worth considering in the development of urban aquaculture. Technology is needed to support the implementation of urban aquaculture in overcoming existing limitations. This research aims to design an urban aquaculture system integrated with IoT technology and solar energy to facilitate fish farming for urban communities. This system is expected to provide solutions so that urban residents can become self-sufficient in sustainably meeting their food needs, support government efforts in increasing food security, and improve community income.
