Female Patients Have a Reduced Risk of Reoperation for Recurrence After Laparoscopic Groin Hernia Repair
In this nationwide matched cohort study, females had a significantly lower risk of reoperation for recurrence following laparoscopic groin hernia repair than males. These findings contrast with historical data from open repair and support the current recommendation to use laparoscopy in female patients. The results are likely generalizable to countries with universal healthcare systems, but differences in access to surgery may affect applicability elsewhere.
